Don't Waste Money On Magic Tricks

Here are some definite Do’s and Don’ts when purchasing magic tricks so you can get the most for your money.  Unless you have the ability to magically pull money out of the air, these tips will help save you some dollars and aggravation.

When purchasing magic tricks it is really important not to waste your money on tricks that are either way too advanced for you or are very poor quality.  If the trick is too advanced, it will just make you frustrated trying to make it work, at best you will have to put it aside and wait until you have achieved that skill level.  If the quality is poor then you will feel like someone has taken advantage of you.  This can be very discouraging especially for someone new to magic.  I can offer some tips that can help you avoid wasting a lot of money on magic tricks that you will never master.

First thing I recommend is to find a good place to purchase magic either online or a physical magic shop or both.  If there are magic shops in your area it’s good to go in and get to know the owner and let him know what level you are as a magician and in front of what type of audience you would want to perform. Do you want to perform on stage, or do you want to be up close and personal?  Do you want to perform at parties, or do you want to perform street magic?  Or do you just want to perform your magic tricks at family gatherings or just one on one with friends?  Then have him demonstrate a couple tricks he might recommend for you, build from there.  If you are purchasing online then make sure that they have videos that demonstrate the trick first, so you can see before you buy.  Most online shops will also include in the description the skill level of the trick either, beginner, intermediate, or advanced.

I believe that no matter where you purchase your magic tricks it is best to see a demonstration first.  Don’t rely on the description of the trick.  Many times the description makes it sound much better than the actual trick.   This is important because very few places will take a trick back once you have opened it because now you know the secret of the trick which is really most of what you are paying for, so make your choices with that thought in mind.

 Buy quality, it’s better to have just a couple of good quality tricks rather than have a pile of cheap ones, you will be happier in the long run.  Purchase no more than two or three tricks at a time and then master those before you move on to the next one.  Don’t fall into the trap of buying too many tricks and never having the time to get good at any of them.  You will forget why you purchased the magic trick in the first place.  Even with these precautions, sometimes we will all make a mistake and buy a bad magic trick.  But at least by following these guidelines we can hope to make that the exception to the rule.  Just remember to have fun with your magic.
